Licensing and use of my visuals

The simple guidance: saving my visuals for yourself is always free. Sharing them is free with proper credit. Implementing them as part of your work requires a license.

The key question is: are you sharing it, or implementing it? Sharing means passing it along — posting it online, reposting it so others can discover it, sending it to a friend with a “look at this.” That is free, as long as my name and a path back to my work are clearly visible. Implementing means my visual is doing a deliberate job inside your practice, your classroom, or your sessions. You are not pointing people to my work — you are using my work to support your own. That always requires a license. If you’re ever unsure, reach out before using.

Credit requirement: Hidde Douna / Growth by Visuals must be credited in any public-facing use. The watermark must remain visible and intact on all versions. Internal use — a poster on an office wall — does not require active crediting, but the watermark must remain on the image.
Restrictions

What is never permitted

No license — paid or free — grants the following rights. These require a separate written agreement with me.

Commercial exploitation

  • Running paid advertisements featuring the visual — Meta, Google, YouTube, or any platform
  • Creating and selling merchandise using the visual — prints, clothing, phone cases, or any product
  • Reselling, sublicensing, or redistributing the visual or file in any form
  • Including the visual in a product, template, or download that others can purchase or access

Derivative and AI use

  • Modifying, remixing, or creating derivative works based on the visual
  • Adding your own logo, branding, or watermark to the visual — this is strictly forbidden without a specific written license
  • Removing, cropping, or altering any watermark or branding
  • Using the visual as training data for AI models or any machine learning application
  • Tracing, recreating, or closely imitating my illustration style for commercial purposes

Broadcast and media use

  • Use in television, film, streaming content, or YouTube video ads
  • Press or editorial publication without prior written permission
  • NFT creation or any blockchain-based tokenization of the visual

Organizational overreach

  • Using a Personal, Classroom, or Professional license across multiple people or locations
  • Use by a third-party agency or contractor on behalf of their own clients
